After a LOOOONG 9 months he's arrived!!! Here's a quick bullet summary of the labor story. As many of you know, my goal was a natural (no medication, still at a hospital) VBAC.
Dec 31st
8:00pm: contractions change from random to consistent. Labored that night with no sleep. Around 4:45 am went to the hospital even though contractions weren't super intense, they were 2-3 min apart which kinda scared me. I didn't know how fast I'd progress, especially with baby #2.
January 1st
5:15am: admitted to the hospital at a VERY DISAPPOINTING 3 cm.
7:30am: contractions had slowed and I had stopped progressing. They sent me home. I wanted to punch a hole in a wall. I had heard of this happening to women but I didn't realize how awful it was.
8:00am: Matson got me my FAVORITE breakfast: an egg, sausage and cheese croissanwich from BK :) I was able to sleep for about an hour before contractions started AGAIN.
I labored that entire day. It was exhausting to say the least. The contractions were getting stronger and stronger but I knew my best bet was to wait it out until I was farther along.
7:30pm: This was it. I knew the contractions were definitely doing something and that the next time I was home, I'd have my son with me. Even though my body was drained, my mind was in a really good place and I was ready to have this natural VBAC baby!
8:00pm: Admitted to the hospital at a 6 (not great but better than a 3!).
The next hour wasn't pleasant. My body was drained. My mind became fuzzy and within about a 30 minute period I had 3 seizures. The fear that overcame me was so different from anything I've ever felt. Scary. Scary. Scary. Then my midwife looked at me and I just knew she was going to tell me I'd have to have a c-section. "Afton, I know you wanted to go unmediated but for the safety of you and the baby I think you need an..... epidural." DONE!
9:40pm: Epidural came! I was at a 7.
1:00am: Ready to push! Then... contractions died. I had to get pitocin at a 10!! Who does that?!
1:34am: Kason arrived with just a few pushes. Matson helped deliver him. It was a high like I'd never felt before. We were thrilled! He was a gargantuan 5 lbs. 14 oz. and 19 in. long with lots of black hair and skinny little bird legs.
